Aluminum forging is the process by which the metal is shaped by the compressive force of a press. The process refines the grain structure and improves the physical properties of the metal. A forged metal has greater strength, ductility and toughness than a base metal due to the wrought structure.
Revstone hot forgings start with aluminum bar stock that is heated and pre-bent to form the parts general shape. This pre-bent bar stock is placed into a mechanical press which uses an eccentric crank to transfer energy from a fly wheel to forge the bar stock into the shape of the impression die. Mechanical presses are fast moving so the metal is impacted. Therefore there is excess metal around the part that is trimmed after being removed from the die. With presses ranging from 500 tons to 3,000 tons, we are capable of meeting our customers’ exacting standards through a variety of forging processes, including:
4. Liquid Dye Penetrate Inspection
Revstone is also capable of dealing with a wide variety of alloys, with qualities perfectly suited for a whole range of secondary manufacturing processes:
1. Standard US/EU (6061/6082)
2. Laser welding (K400)
3. High strength (2014, 2024, 7033)
4. Machining (K401C, 4010)
5. Wear resistance (K432, 4032)
6. Elevated temperatures (2618)
Revstone uses aluminum forging to produce products for suspension, drivetrain, fuel system, and climate control applications.
